Tracing SA law journal articles

References to articles may be found in:

  •  Bibliographies of books and other journal articles
  • indexing databases which are collections of journals and indicate the content of articles across a range of journals for multiple years, often in specific subject areas. Many databases are produced overseas and most do not include South African publications. The first place to search for South African journal articles is in SABINET (South African Bibliographic Network). Sabinet is an independent company and the UKZN Library subscribes to their databases

The SABINET collection of databases of South African publications includes two journal databases: ISAP (Index to SA Periodicals) and SA e Publications.

ISAP indexes the contents of all South African journals and magazines including the law ones back to 1987. ISAP can be searched by keyword, subject, author and journal title in order to establish whether articles have been written on a topic and in which journals they appear. The journals and articles are not available electronically from ISAP. SA e Publications is a subset of ISAP that provides the full text to some journals back to 2001. What content is available electronically is determined by the publishers of the journals. Below is listed those law journals indexed on ISAP and SA e-Publications as well as 2 databases in which the full text of some journals can be located, which are independent of SABINET.
